    Golden Milk or Turmeric Milk is a traditional Indian detox drink. It looks like a latte type of drink made with turmeric, ginger, pepper, and other Indian spices. It is one of the classical drinks that has a lot of health benefits and you will need under 10 minutes to make this beverage.

    The recipe I have shared here shows you how to make authentic Golden Milk from scratch with easy step-by-step instructions. I have also shared the video of this recipe to show how easy it is to make at home. This Golden Milk has a rich healing quality due to its anti-inflammatory properties and comforting drink that can be consumed in the morning or before going to bed for sound sleep.

    What is Golden Milk?

    Golden Milk aka Turmeric Milk is one of the age-old drinks that has originated from India. This drink is typically made with cow's milk, turmeric, and other Indian spices. It is considered one of the best home remedies for cold, cough, fever, bloating, and many other ailments. Haldi Doodh is the Hindi term used in the Northern part of India which refers to nothing but Turmeric Milk.

    Even though this drink is known to Indian people for many years it got its popularity in the western world as Golden Milk Latte. It became popular for its essential healing anti-inflammatory and detox properties. It is also one of the best alternatives for caffeinated drinks.

    I have been drinking this turmeric milk throughout my life from my childhood. And even I am making this to my family often. It is literally one of the best drinks to soothe your itchy throat, cold, cough, or fever. It also helps you to get a goodnight's sleep after a long stressed day. The Golden Milk I am sharing here is the recipe that I have been making for my family for years which is transferred from my granny to my mom and then to me.

    Ingredients

    The ingredients you will need to make this recipe is pretty simple and you may find them in almost every grocery store.

    • Milk - I have used full fat cow milk here and you can use fat free milk as well
    • Turmeric Powder - Freshly ground turmeric powder, grated turmeric roots, works best for this recipe
    • Pepper Powder - Fresh pepper powder or even crushed peppercorns gives the best flavor to this drink
    • Cinnamon Powder - i have used cinnamon powder here and you can also use cinnamon sticks which gives the similar taste and flavor the drink
    • Ginger - Fresh chopped ginger gives nice spicy and warm flavor to the milk and I suggest not to skip this ingredient. It also helps in soothing the cold symptoms.

    How to make a Golden Milk?

    The ingredients that I have mentioned here make 2 servings of this drink and you can double or triple according to your family needs. So let see how to make this healthy drink below with easy step-by-step instructions.

    1. Pour the milk into a saucepan in medium heat
    2. Add all the ingredients into the milk
    3. Boil the milk for 2 to 5 minutes this step helps the milk absorb all the flavors and benefits from the milk
    4. Stir on and off to avoid overflowing the milk
    5. Let the milk puffs up and switches off and remove from heat.

    Serve this healthy, warm and refreshing Golden Milk warm in the morning or before bed.

    Substitutions

    • Cows Milk - You can substitute with cashew, almond, coconut milk, Oat Milk for vegan friendly version of this turmeric milk
    • Fresh Ginger - If fresh ginger is not handy, you can also use dry ginger powder
    • Cinnamon Powder - Cinnamon sticks also works well for this recipe if you are not handy with powder

    Variations

    • You can always make this Golden Milk hot or cold. But to make a cold version make sure to boil all the ingredients in the milk and refrigerate it before serving them
    • You can also add ghee to this turmeric milk which increases the digestives enzymes and helps in improving the metabolism

    • For making Golden Milk Latte, finally froth the milk and garnish it on the top layer of the prepared Turmeric Milk

    • I have used cinnamon powder, pepper powder, and ginger along with turmeric powder which delivers a nice spicy and earthy flavors to the milk
    • I haven't used any sweetener here, but you can use honey or maple syrup if you think the milk is spicy
    • Even though I have used cows milk, you can always feel free to use non-diary milk for vegan options
    • You can also use coconut oil, or ghee to your Golden Milk which aids in good digestion
    • This Golden Milk also called Turmeric Milk is the best home remedy for cough, cold, congestion, stomach bloating, indigestion, and also for a good night sleep

    Storage Suggestions

    This Golden Milk tastes best when consumed fresh but you can also store the leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat the milk on the stovetop or in the microwave before serving them.

    This Golden Milk can be served as a drink in the morning to start your day or can be also consumed before bed. You can either drink it with or without sweetener. Try honey to enjoy the traditional benefits if you would prefer to use a sweetener.

    Ingredients
     
     

    • 2 cup Milk
    • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
    • ¼ tsp Cinnamon Powder
    • ¼ tsp Pepper Powder
    • 1 tsp Ginger, chopped

    To Prepare Golden Milk(Turmeric Milk)

    • In a saucepan with medium heat, pour milk and add turmeric powder, cinnamon powder, pepper powder, and chopped ginger
