What is Brown Sugar Milk Bubble Tea?

Brown Sugar Milk Tea is a sweet, creamy, and chewy Taiwanese drink. It is usually made with Brown Sugar syrup, boba, and milk with a lot of ice cubes. This Brown Sugar Milk Bubble Tea is also called Tiger Milk Tea as the sugar syrup creates a tiger stripe-like impression.

While some people also call it Dirty Brown Sugar Milk Tea as the brown sugar syrup looks like dirty mud. Even though the drink looks like mud or tiger stripes, it is irresistibly delicious. And this Brown Sugar Boba drink is one of the easy-to-make drinks and will be your new favorite on your drinks list.

    Ingredients

The ingredients you will need to make this Brown Sugar Milk Bubble Tea are super simple. They are minimal and you may easily find them in most Asian Supermarkets around. So let's see what are they below.

Brown Sugar Milk Bubble Tea ingredients on a table
    • Boba Pearls - I have used instant tapioca pearls with black sugar flavor and it cooks in 5 minutes as per the package instructions. But you can also make the tapioca pearls from scratch using tapioca starch
    • Brown Sugar - Gives the classic taste and flavor to the Boba drink similar to one you get in branded tea spot. Here I have used organic brown sugar to make syrup but feel free to use palm sugar powder, dark brown cane sugar, or light brown cane sugar thats handy to you
    • Milk - Cold refrigerated milk for iced version or warm milk to enjoy as a comforting winter drink. But you can also use half and half milk for extra richness instead of milk
    • Ice Cubes - Ice cubes for chilled Boba drink

How to make Brown Sugar Milk Bubble Tea?

The recipe I have shared here is Brown Sugar Milk Tea with Boba or bubble that delivers a refreshing decadent drink. Even though the recipe is called Tea, there is no real tea leaf or powder used here. But if you want to add real tea flavor then you could check on the Bubble Tea made with black tea leaf, Boba, and milk that's already shared in this blog.

Following are the high-level instructions to make this drink but for detailed step-by-step instructions with photo and video, please check out the recipe card below.

    • Boil Water - In a saucepan with medium heat, pour 4 cups of water and bring it to boil
    • Add Boba Pearls - Add 1 cup of instant Boba pearls and allow it to cook for 2 to 3 minutes
    • Close and Cook - Close the lid of the pan and cook the Boba until it doubles in its size in low heat. You can also refer to the package cooking instructions
    • Drain and Reserve - Open the lid and drain the cooked Boba and reserve it for later use. I would suggest you keep the cooked Boba in the water itself if you are not immediately using it in the sugar syrup
    • Add Brown Sugar - In a pan with medium heat, add 1 cup of brown sugar and mix until it melts
    • Add Cooked Boba - Add the drained Boba to the brown sugar syrup and cook until it turns sticky. Now the sticky and sweet Brown Sugar Boba Syrup is ready to make Boba milk tea
    • Assemble the Brown Sugar Boba - In a serving glass, add 3 tbsp of Brown Sugar Boba syrup and swirl the glass to spread the syrup. This will help to create the tiger stripes like impression on the glass
    • Add Milk and Serve - Add ice cubes and fill the glass with cold milk. Now the sweet and addicting Brown Sugar Milk Bubble Tea is ready for you to taste and enjoy

    Tips

    • Cooking Boba - Always make sure to refer to the package instructions for cooking the instant Boba. This will helps you to make soft, chewy, and non-rubbery Boba pearls
    • Brown Sugar Syrup - Here I have used organic brown sugar to make the syrup but feel free to use dark brown, light brown, or palm sugar powder to achieve similar results
    • For Tiger Stripes - If you would want the tiger stripe-like impression on the serving glass, then I would suggest swirling the glass after adding the brown sugar syrup with Boba into the glass. Allow it to stand for a few minutes. Then add the ice cubes and pour in the cold milk

    Calories

This Brown Sugar Milk Bubble Tea contains 400 calories per serving and it is an estimation by the nutrition calculator. The calorie count may change if you change or alter the ingredient. You could also find the detailed nutritional information in the recipe card below.

    Storage Suggestions

I would recommend consuming this Brown Sugar Milk Tea as fresh as possible as the instant Boba used for this recipe would turn hard and rubbery if kept for long. But the cooked Boba made from scratch using tapioca starch can be kept for 2 to 3 hours.

    Serving Suggestions

Serve this Bubble Tea with a lot of ice cubes to enjoy it cold. And you can also consume it warm on cold winter days. If you would want the tiger stripe-like impression on the serving glass, then I would suggest swirling the glass after adding the brown sugar syrup with Boba into the glass. Allow it to stand for a few minutes. Then add the ice cubes and pour in the cold milk.
